Louis Armstrong was born in the birthplace of jazz, new orleans in 1901. He died in 1971. His nickname was battlefield because of frequent fighting between gangs. His father abandoned his mother and he spent the first five years of his life with his grandmother. Sooner or later he had moved in with his mom and his little sister beatrice. When he was seven he had had worked before and after school collecting bottles and rags and delivering coal for the karnofsky's family.
When he rode down the streets he heard music and admired it. He heard it playing from nearby dance halls parties and bars. Withe the kornofsky's help he bought an old beat up cornet because he decided to leran an instrument himself. He dropped out of school in third grade and roamed the streets with other boys. In 1913 the police brought him to a place for troubled boys and then he talked the band director into letting him be a member, then everyone started to notice him. He had swithced from playing cornet to the trumpet. And he had did gigs with Fletcher Andersons band for one year in new york. when he came back to new york everyone wanted him to join there orchestras because he was so good.
